Do not bother with processes if you are a one-woman band – What!? Yes, I have seen this online, and people have told me this. And as controversial as this may sound. Because I know there are some really big industry leaders that that swear by this and say that you don’t need processes if it’s just you.
Now, the reason that I strongly disagree here is you need processes in order to have a system set up. A lot of these people will say you must have a system set up because that sets your solid foundations in your business.
And that’s true, absolutely does.
But what is your system if you don’t even have some processes there?
It’s really, really difficult for business owners to be able to have systems in place that are really going to help them scale their business. And push their business into the direction that they want it to be, without having any form of processes in place. Here’s why.
Overall, how you going to know that the strategy is working.
You’re not doing it consistently, and although you may think that everything you’re doing is in your head. You get these times where things are really busy things are really chaotic. It’s really hard for your head to always function out what you need to be doing.
So for instance here if you are following a particular strategy for your content marketing. You put out content every week, but you don’t have a process in place, you just do it as you do it. It’s going to take you much longer to do the task for one if you don’t have processes in place. Because you’re going to have to constantly be thinking about what you need to do next.
You’re going to forget about certain things, and it’s not going to be consistent.
It could be the layout of your work, it could be the tone of your work, it could be what you’re talking about all these things are what is relayed to us throughout our processes. So if we don’t have processes in place, how on earth are we going to stay consistent. And when we think to come to looking at our strategy and what’s working, we’re gonna have no idea of what’s working. Because we haven’t, we haven’t been consistent.
Now stick with me, because there are other reasons why I really, really disagree with Do Not Bother With Processes If You Are A One Woman Band – What!

1. Reduces procrastination
Now, as I’ve touched upon, without processes, your brain is functioning every single thing that you have to do in your business. And yes, you may have Asana that has your tasks set out. But actually having the task set out what you’re doing is setting out the overall objective, how do you get to that objective. Your brain has to then function through all the steps that need to be taken in order to achieve that objective.
So, when it’s really busy, You’re left sitting there thinking, what took, what do I do next. What am I meant to be doing? And that’s not unusual, because without a process in place. You simply become overwhelmed in your head, thinking about all these things that you need to do. So then you actually ended up not doing it at all, because you’re overwhelmed you’re trying to think about what you need to do. You’ve wasted tonnes of time that you could have been spent on growing your business. Had you have private processes in place.
2. Unbottlenecked you
Yes, sure. At the moment, you may be a one-woman band, but I guarantee you further down the line. You are going to have at least one team member. That team member in order to help you with your business, because in order for you to stay in your zone of genius and say in what you are good at. You need someone else that’s covering that operational side. And you need someone else behind the scenes that are doing the implementation, at least.
By having the processes set out, it means that you can easily turn around and delegate that to a team member. Without everything having to come for you. So for instance here, if you have a sales call, but you want an assistant to write up the notes for the proposal from that call.
How are you going to do that if you’re on the call? You’re going to record it so it’s making sure that you have the processes there that are going to ultimately then remind you of what you need to do? So if anything does not fall on your shoulders. When you start having the call. You may then without a process think, oh, I should have recorded that. You have forgotten that calls been and done. So there you are, you’ve bottlenecked yourself because all the older conversation has been with you and this particular potential client, whereas with a process, you would have been able to remind yourself, I need to record this call.
3. Scale through successful delegation
Now, you need to be able to delegate, in order to scale your business. No one scales their business without delegating. In order to delegate, one of the biggest problems that people say that they have is that they don’t have the time to train that person. Or that person doesn’t do it as well as me.
Now, these are two myths in my eyes, because having the time to train someone is completely different. If you have set processes the training experience that’s going to be needed from you is going to be much more minimal. Then while it would be if you didn’t have processes. Because ultimately what you’re doing is being able to hand these processes over to a team member.
Now, without the processes, you are going to spend a lot of time training that person. And that’s then going to become frustrated because it’s not going to be done how you wanted it to be done. Without you sitting there watching that person do it. And that’s really frustrating but not only on your part that’s frustrating on your team’s part as well. So making sure that you have processes set up that enable you to scow with easy delegation is really really important.
4. Removes overwhelm
Now I’ve touched upon this, but when you don’t have processes in place, you will become overwhelmed because there are so many moving parts in your business. And part of what I do in my program and with my consulting clients is to make sure that you simplify things. A lot of the time clients come to me and they have loads of different tasks that actually these tasks will move in pieces, for one particular overall objective.
Make sure that you simplify it, you consolidate them, and you make sure that they are easy to go through that route, that removes that overwhelm. Because you’re not going into, if you use Asana, you’re not going into your asana and being faced with this massive long list of things that you need to do. And you are going to be better, using your time and you’re going to be more productive. Because, for example, it could be that you’re going into a particular piece of software to do one thing, you come out you go, and do something else. And then you have to go back into that piece of software to do something else, consolidate them up. Make them into the particular system that you need in order to follow for that overall objective.
Now, with all these moving pieces, without seeing them all flow together, it’s very overwhelming. So making sure that you create the system and process is going to work for you. That’s going to stop you from becoming overwhelmed because ultimately becoming overwhelmed means you don’t do that thing.
5. Keeps consistency
Now, you want to stay consistent throughout. Because you want to be able to know that the metrics that you’re measuring for that particular strategy are true. And they are metrics that are going to tell you whether or not a particular process or a particular strategy is working for you in your business. Now, without processes. You’re not going to stay consistent. Sure you may have everything in your head, but when that time comes and things get busy, you will get overwhelmed you get stressed out. And you actually probably won’t do that thing, because you’re going to have too much going on.
That’s really, really difficult for you to then say because they usually say 90 days in order for a new strategy to embed to see if it’s going to work. How can you then revisit that strategy in 90 days, if you haven’t done it consistently throughout? It’s going to be really hard for you to be able to measure if that’s going to work. So, ultimately then leads to a huge waste of time, and you’re none the clearer. Then you have to start the process again. It’s really frustrating. And by having the process in place, it means that you are able to stay consistent so you can honestly say when it comes to reviewing, reviewing your strategy, whether or not that things worked for you.
6. Lastly for Do Not Bother With Processes If You Are A One Woman Band – What! It Increases productivity
Now, it increases productivity because you’re not spending your time sitting there procrastinating about what you need to be doing.
You are being more productive because you have the steps there that have set out, you’re going to have tonnes more time left at the end of this. In order for you to be able to focus on different parts of the business. And that then means that you come away feeling amazing, because how much, how amazing does it feel when you’ve been able to tick through your, your task list, and you have time, you’re not stressed out, you’re not overwhelmed. It feels pretty amazing.
By making sure that you have these processes that are laid out in a really simplified way, it means that you increase your productivity massively.
