Hello, welcome to another episode of what would Charlotte do. Today I’m answering a question that I’ve been asked a lot more recently. And that’s because I’m recording this at the beginning of 2021, and the UK has just gone back into another national lockdown.
So, no, this video is not going to be about coronavirus or the lockdown.
But the question that I’m asked is coming about a lot more because of the lockdown and coronavirus. So, that question around, can your business grow without a team.
The simple and quick answer to this is yes. But there are caveats here. And there are some things that you really need to have in place to be sure that your business can grow without a team.
There does become a point in business, where having a team is essential.
That’s generally around the scaling stage when you near that scaling stage you really need to have a team. Because it becomes really intense. There’s a lot going on when you really get to that stage you’ve genuinely got a few offerings happening. You’ve got a couple of projects going on, you have multiple clients. With so much happening it becomes impossible for one sole person to be able to manage everything.
But before you get to that scaling stage.
It absolutely is possible to grow your business, to a comfortable position to be able to then afford to hire support.
If you know me you know that I am a huge, huge believer in hiring support. I have an agency that does that. So, of course, I believe in it. But I do also believe in hiring support at the right time.
For many people, they rush into hiring support
It could be because they think that, a VA for instance is going to fill the gap of their marketing knowledge, as an example. Which very rarely ends well. So you really need to make sure that you are in the best possible place, in order to hire a team. And it is the right time hiring a team. You’re not hiring the team too soon to be able to do stuff that you don’t even really know how or maybe not even really validated the offer.
It would be very very hard.
So, you need to have systems, of course, that was going to come up. I love systems. I’m a big believer in systems, and I have systems in my business have systems in my life.
It’s the way that you’re set up to be able to function and do things that ultimately people may look at you and think you’ve got so much going on how do you do it all. It is because you have systems in place that are working alongside you. Systems that can help you function and telling you what you need to do at any one time.
Automating is your friend
Don’t be scared to automate. You need to automate, because even if you hire a team. You need to know that team only concentrates on the things that can’t be automated because it’s cheaper to automate them. So things that don’t need human interaction should certainly be automated.
Do look into what you are doing at the moment, what’s working, but what’s been a bit of a time suck.
Look at ways that you can potentially automate that going forwards streamline your strategies. And only focus on what’s working without a team. Sure you may look at these people that have got multi-million-pound businesses and they’re doing all the strategies.
That’s fine for them, they have a huge team that’s helping them for little me sitting here in the corner. I couldn’t do all of those strategies. So I need to make sure that I’m focusing on the ones that I need to be focusing on now. The ones that are going to work for me.
And lastly, I would say most important is, don’t forget about yourself care.
When you buy your business without the team, which is possible. If you become quite burnt out. You don’t have certain steps in place. If you don’t have systems in place, your business goes into chaos. And that means you go into chaos and that then means that you end up feeling burnt out because you can’t keep up your business isn’t achieving what it set out to achieve, you’re feeling lost you’re feeling frustrated.
And if you’re not automating. Again, you’re focusing on the things that can be automated and you’re putting money into something that can be automated and you could save money from automating it.
So making sure that you are thinking about these steps, along with your self-care and making sure that you really whittle it down to only focusing on the now what you need to do to move up to that next stage is going to be essential to growing your business without a team.
I hope that’s helped. It’s, I know it’s quite a long-winded answer. And the reason for that is because I wanted to give the overall answer here, I didn’t want to just give you a quick answer and say yes, of course, it can be. And you kind of then stumble upon all these blocks because Charlotte said that I can grow my business without a team and didn’t tell you all the ins and outs and the stuff that you really need to have in place. If you’re planning on doing that.
So, scaling a business is not for the faint-hearted. So make sure that you set yourself up in the best possible position you can.
